I join the rest of the world in being completely appalled by the latest news out of China – the baby milk powder scandal. Seems that Melamine, that pesky toxic compound that found its way into Purina dog chow, has shown up in baby milk powder, sickening thousands of Chinese babies. Corruption in China surely knows no bounds when babies are being poisoned so milk producers can make a few more bucks. This is ridiculous.
I’m willing to bet money that all of this was known to be happening before the Olympics, too. Timing is everything for revealing scandals…
One of our friends has a baby who potentially consumed this product and is being evaluated for any problems now. I hope that the baby is okay.
Another happy China day…
In other news, the DH and I are still cooped up in a Qingdao hotel room. We’ve been forced to share my Apple laptop, and the DH has been using it a lot for work stuff. (His pc is temporarily out of order.) Guessing from all the heavy sighs, occasional cursing and general frustration coming from the DH’s direction, I’d say he doesn’t much enjoy the Mac OS… I’ve been using our little ASUS eeePC for studying and web browsing. It is tiny! It is Linux based and is pretty easy to use, but I miss my Apple. For example, it took me a heck of a lot of time to upload this photo and a lot of time to figure out the Internet connection.

Oh yea, it is small, and it fits in my purse! 0.92 kg! Just one of our toys from the Hong Kong trip.
Now that I’ve got this little machine dominated, I should be posting more photos from our Spain trip. And I can finally devote more time to my Masters courses – the official countdown has begun! I graduate in December!
