I’ve been a professional university student since 1994. No, I’m serious, I’ve pretty much been in college for 14 years. But I think I might be done for a while. Maybe.
This is the downside of distance study. For the last 18 months I have been working on a Master’s of Library Science degree from Texas Woman’s University without ever having set foot on their campus. It’s so convenient! But being distance study, it’s just been me and my laptop for class. And now I’m pretty sure classes are finished. I think I have graduated. I think I might be done. But I’m not sure, because it is still just me and my laptop.
A lot of my classmates got to go to the commencement ceremony in Texas last Friday. I didn’t, so this doesn’t seem all that real to me. Don’t I get an email saying, “You’ve graduated!” or something?!
Do I have a master’s degree? Can I stop “going to class” now?

*Incidentally, as a professional student it might be very difficult for me to resist the urge to enrol in a second master’s degree program. Let’s hope that the additional time for blogging will be reward enough to keep me from the enrollment button! I should just be satisfied with an A.A., A.A.S., B.S. & M.L.S, although I’d love me an M.P.H. or even an M.F.A. I’m such a geek.
