The Gilded Cage

Birdcages in the Afternoon Sun, Linyi, China

The older men in my neighborhood spend the day playing cards and chatting with their friends. They often bring their birds out to the sidewalk to chat with the other old men’s birds, as well. Encountering these men and their birds has been one of my favorite moments of my stay in China. You can find them in every neighborhood in every city. I love the camaraderie.

How great is it that the birds get their outing as well each day? :)

Lovely shot! Sweet moment. I understand why you would enjoy that.

I enjoy the men here in Spain with their sacks of fresh picked food from their gardens that they walk around with and barter with one another in a connecting way.

Not as pretty as birds, but something charming about the old timers getting together. ;)

I also loved the men out walking their birds in the parks in Beijing. Didn’t ever catch a cage parking area, though :)
