Well, isn’t this just the week of happiness? First it was Dong Zhi, now Festivus and soon it will be Christmas. (Yule, Kwanzaa & Hanukkah were in there somewhere, too.)

I’m rather partial to Festivus myself. The DH and I are regular Scrooges. I made an effort this year with my pathetic dead Christmas tree, but most years I don’t bother. If we have kids they are going to be sorely disappointed and begging for holidays with relatives!

This year the DH and I will engage in the usual feat of strength and the airing of the grievances. There will be no shiny pole this year, as I think my decorated dead tree is a good enough substitute – there is no distracting tinsel.

If you have no idea what I am talking about, read more about Festivus here and watch a few videos on YouTube. In the spirit of the holiday, I won’t actually link to any videos, I’ll just tell you to search for yourself. Seinfeld may be gone, but it will never be forgotten.

P.S. If you are an expat struggling to adjust to the Christmas holidays in a new environment, Amanda Kendle has some advice for you.
