Warning: Sensitive types and PETA members – look away!

What was on offer in the restaurant we ate at last night

It’s what you think it is. Sorry, I had to share. It’s inhumane. It’s wrong. It’s disgusting. But it is also a different culture. It is what it is.

ewwwwww. Personally, I cringe at the bags full of chicken feet. But this is worse, I think.

Oooh yummy! I’ve had chicken’s feet before in dim sum in London but dog? Hmmm….

This looks almost exactly like something we have in Iceland, but instead of a dog’s head it’s a sheep’s head called ‘svið’ or ‘singed lamb’s head’. It looks pretty nasty so I’ve never tried it. It seems only old people like it!

Donna – I was kind of forced to eat duck feet once out of politeness and it was not a texture I would like to repeat!

teeweewonders – you said it best!

Sandra – LOL! You know it! Cheek meat is sooooo gooooood!

Jessica – thanks for stopping by! You’re the first expat in Iceland that I’ve come across. I’ll check out your blog! I know what you mean about the sheep’s head. They eat that here, too. Sometimes, when I see dog head, I like to tell myself that it is a sheep.

Not everyone here likes dog, btw. It is mostly older people from the cold, snowy North who eat it. Evidently, it is good for warmth in winter. That said, people from the far south (Guangdong) will eat just about anything, it seems. :) Anything that flies or walks, except airplanes and humans, or so they say.

Oh my, that is enough to make me grateful for the weird stuff I’ve seen in Brazil. Come to think of it there is no weird stuff in Brazil compared to that pig parts and all.
