Gadling reports that a new mall in Nanjing, China is opening full of “copycat” Western brand stores, such as Bucksstar coffee, OMC McDnoald’s and Pizza Huh. Hilarious!
Yes, there are lot of copycats, fake brands and knock-offs in China. I see them just about everyday, everywhere. I wouldn’t even know how to purchase a real DVD. From the Gadling post:
For many individuals, owning and consuming brands legitimizes their place in the world, announcing their ascension to the modern global economy. The creators of this mall in Nanjing seem to have come to a similar conclusion – even a knockoff of the real thing, no matter how awkward and blatant to Western eyes, is better than no brands at all.

Too funny! I’m at a loss for the names now, but the Brazilian malls really liked to have stores with names oddly similar to Versace, Polo and other favorites. The Bucksstar has to be my favorite!!
I’m so used to knock-offs that I hardly notice any more! Many are soooo blatant!
