When I first went to work as an English teacher in China, I had a good chuckle over some of my student’s names. English names, that is. I thought the practice of choosing an English name was limited to people who interact with foreigners or students of English, but according to this Slate article, many in the business world also adopt English names.
So far I have had several students with English names like Ryuk and Yamazaki, which are in fact Japanese names. I have had Choppers and Foxes and Clouds and Blue Skies (can you tell I work in aviation?) I even had a Seaman. Granted, I’ve also had Kevins, Joes and Davids. The girls I work with are named Wendy, Susan, Betty, Faye and Sukie, among others. I’ve always said that if I had to choose an English name it would be something like Strawberry or Freckles. Viva la eccentricity!

I am serious! I think he was a fan of a video game that featured a character named Chopper.
