Sun!

in China

It’s been a hot, sunny summer in China. To truly blend in with the locals you’ll need to be properly attired for the sun!

Typical sun protection attire for bicyclists in China

White skin is highly desirable here. When the sun is out, the full face visors and long-sleeve “sun jackets” come on. Here sun parasols are still in daily use. I can’t complain, because I am the whitest chic in the world. I admit I carry an umbrella if I forget to apply SPF lotion.

I’m on my way to Amsterdam-Madrid. See you soon!

You are missing one key item of clothing, the nylon stocking ankle socks, otherwise you would blend into my neighborhood perfectly.

In Shenzhen I even saw Nivea underarm deodorant with “whitening” ingredients. I mean, I can understand whitening lotions for other parts of the body, but pretty much the underarm does not see much sun.

I forgot the ankle socks! I even have a pair that I bought as a joke a few years ago!

Oh.My.God. I used to see those visors all the time in the SF Bay Area! I would actually see women wearing those visors AND white gloves while driving…. it was hilarious.

Seriously!? I just can’t imagine anyone in the US wearing a sun visor like this!

Here in Beijing the latest accessory is the sleeved cape. It kind of flows behind as you bicycle down the road. And yes, you have to have a visor too. Keep the sun and the bugs out.

Sleeved capes haven’t made it to Linyi yet, but I’m sure it is only a matter of time!

Okay, so I can think of no where in the world more opposite of that than where I am right now. :) Out comes the sun along with the belly, shoulders, legs and the, um, décolletage.

LOL! I think you’ll be surprised on your trip to Asia! The ladies here cover at the first glimpse of sun.
