So there was a camel in Linyi’s People Square today, and if that wasn’t strange and random enough, when I stopped to admire it (they have the cutest faces), pretty much everyone who was looking at the camel turned to stare at me. I felt like working out a partnership with the camel’s owner, who happened to be selling photos with the camel. What could be better than a photo with a camel and a laowai?
there was a camel…

Look at that foreigner (they have the cutest faces)
I bumped into three camels outside Rockefeller Center. That was a surprise. I kept walking … kind of afraid, until I realised there must have been some sort of Xmas production going on and those camels were going to carry three kings.
That’s too funny. I never would have made the three kings connection!
Very cool site, globalgal. I’ve never been anywhere, so I have questions, many questions.
My brother spent a lot of time in China, and I don’t think he liked it much. He sells and installs phone companies, so he has worked a lot in emerging countries. He loved South Korea. But the reason I’m commenting here is the camel. My brother rode a camel in Egypt–it was a tourist thing to ride them around the pyramids. The camel owner told DB that after the camel got to be a few years old, the people stopped riding it. They ate it. So, I was wondering why there was a camel in China. Also, um, China is might big. Where is your town? Okay, I’ll hush before I swamp your bandwidth or something.

Hi Texanne! Thanks for stopping by my blog.
Okay, where to start… camels in China – I’m working on a series of posts about my recent trip to Xinjiang Province, which is in the far west, on the border with several of the ‘Stans of Central Asia. There are many camels in the deserts of Xinjiang Province, all of the two-humped variety. Seeing camels in the eastern part of the country is rare, which is why there was a crowd around this one. Knowing the Chinese propensity for eating just about anything, camel meat probably is eaten out west.
China is big! So big in fact, that I feel like I’ve only seen a tiny portion of it. I live on the east coast, towards the north. If I looked out my window towards the east, I would be looking at the southern tips of South Korea and Japan, if that helps at all. Some people think China looks like a chicken. If that is the case, I am located right at the top of the chicken’s chest. (Beats the feet!)
And feel free to ask more questions! As you probably guessed from the HtTS forums, I do love to ramble!
