I guess I should have mentioned the girls, at least, eh?! Don’t worry, there were lots of girls around the streets, too. Very sweet girls who would run up to us and greet us in English.

The Arabic script is used to write the Uygur language. The Uygurs are the predominant minority group in Xinjiang Province. They are Chinese although they are of Turkic origins. There are lots of languages/dialects in use in China. If you see a Chinese Yuan note, you will see it has Chinese (simplified), Pinyin (Romanized Chinese), Mongol, Zhuang, Tibetan and Uygur scripts. I’ve really learned a lot since moving here!

Boys will be boys but the backdrops certainly interesting. I didn’t realise there would be Arabic writing on shop windows in China.
