I had a Chinese friend visit me back in the States, and while I was at work, he kept the porch sliding door open – all day. I closed it as soon as I got home. All I remember thinking was, “Our bill is going to be out of this world!”

I read that post and thought it was great advice! Unfortunately, we don’t have a B&Q here and I’m not very good at finding alternatives here, although I am sure I can find all the supplies necessary. It is true that just a little bit of winterizing would make a huge difference. My work place is a different story – the building is basically a portable building on a concrete slab. There are drafts coming from everywhere and no real insulation to speak of. There’s no hope for it!

My friend Adam linked to this on his blog about winterizing. I'm counting on most Beijingers being more of the ventilate midset and less of the winterize mindset so B&Q still has a bunch of these kits still in stock when I get back at the end of the month. I am hoping for two-fold results: less draft, and less coal dust leaking into the apartment
