Summer Pet Peeve

Wide open window without screen

You’ve seen this window before. Everyday this past winter I would find this window in this position and I would dutifully shut it. Everyday. Everyday when it was -5°C. (It just didn’t seem efficient to leave all the windows open.) Leaving windows wide open in winter for the perceived “ventilation benefit” is one of my biggest winter pet peeves in China. I’ll say it again – why can’t the building be ventilated for 5 minutes instead of all day?! I discusses all my winter peeves here.

Let me introduce you to my biggest summer pet peeve: wide open windows with no screens in place, even though the screens are fully functional and available for use. Can I tell you how many flies, bees, gnats and birds I’ve had in my office this week? Yes, I’ve had birds in my office. I am all for opening the windows. In fact, all of my windows and office door are wide open as I write this. But the screens are all in place, too. Yet, when I wander down the hallway to our lobby area I find all the windows open and the screens neglected. It was more noticeable today because a huge amount of tree fluff has invaded the building through that window. Grrrrrr.

I don’t know why my colleagues don’t like to keep the screens closed. I don’t even want to know. I just know that I will dutifully slide the screen over everyday, hoping that the practice will eventually catch on. I’d go do it right now, but first I have to pluck tree fluff from my eyelashes and eyebrows. Nice.

NO.

It will not make any difference. I turn off the light in the briefing room in front of that window for 3 years and I still people leave the light on.
One of those day ha……?

Yes, one of those days! I guess I won’t have to worry about shutting the screen since it was my last at Jiutian!

After the big changes occur, we really should try to get together. Visa-paperwork week. Way too busy to breathe, but all of the windows in the medical exam facility were open wide. I got the giggles while having my EKG (thank you very much)! Really annoyed the technician. lol…
