The One Where I Let the Cat Out of the Bag

So my house looks like this:

Which means my life is turned upside down and I’m likely to stress out at any moment.

Oh yeah, and did I mention WE’RE MOVING TO BEIJING!?

I got tired of waiting for the DH to tell me it was okay to talk about this on a public forum. I can’t wait any more! So that’s the big announcement and now it seems all not such a big deal at all.

But I can tell you, after three years in little Linyi, and one year in the little Shijiazhuang Airport before that, moving to Beijing is like winning the freaking lottery and moving to New York City. (Substitute your own dream city destination if NYC is not yours.)

I’ve got so much to say – about leaving Linyi, about a new lifestyle in Beijing, about the DH’s new position… Now that I’ve got the green light for blogging, I’ll be around here more often.

All I can say right now is FINALLY! We’ve been waiting for two years for this day to arrive. We didn’t really expect our next destination to be Beijing, but we’ll happily take what we can get. Just in case you were wondering, we also considered (however briefly):

Qatar, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Panama, Indonesia, Turks & Caicos, United Arab Emirates (Ras Al-Khaima, Al-Ain AND Dubai), Borneo, British Virgin Islands, Macau and Papua New Guinea.

I was beginning to wonder when the official announcement was coming. Congratulations! And hurry – we’re only here for 20 more days….

I really hope we’ll be in Beijing this coming week… due to bureaucracy it’s taken longer than we planned for Ivan’s pilot licenses to be changed from one company to another – a must before we can sign contracts and move. I’ll send you an email as I’d really love a chance to chat before you go!

Congrats that is awesome!!! We are at two years in India and I have no idea where we will end up next year when our contract ends! I am happy you ended up where you wanted to be!

Wow two years already!? And a baby! While I’m not sure Beijing was our #1 choice, we want to be wherever the job is, haha. I’m sure you understand. :)

Thanks! I’ve added your blog to my Google Reader so I can follow your adventures in Beijing. Maybe I’ll even see you there! My main priority will be studying Mandarin, too. I’m way too ashamed to admit that I’ve been in China for nearly 5 years and my language skills are so deplorable. I’ve got to rectify the situation!

Thanks for the add! I definitely will follow your journey as well! I’m sure you will be able to learn Mandarin if you set it as one of your goals :)

Sweet!

Does this mean there is an English Ground Instructor position opening up? Want to move to Hawaii instead and trade jobs?

Hmm… Hawaii is very tempting!! I could get spoiled by all that blue sky! Unfortunately, I don’t think that JTFA is a place that I can recommend anymore. How do I say this tactfully? It’s just really sad and a little terrifying what passes for flight instruction… we give it 6 months until it self-destructs. I think that the flight training industry in China still needs to work out quite a few growing pains. It’s too bad, really. We had high hopes.

Let me know if you guys need help finding a place, navigating the traffic in this city is one of the hardest parts of living in this city. Good luck with the move!

Thanks! We’re meeting with a friend this week to start looking at places. I’m not sure what to expect, but looking forward to getting settled.
