I'm an American expat living on the fringe of Chinese society. Thanks to a lifetime spent moving around, I often feel like an outsider. This blog explores life in Beijing, China, the occasional aviation topic, expat issues, random travel experiences and interesting things I see, read and hear. If you want to know more about my latest hobby, visit Sewing on the Fringe, where I blog about learning to sew in Beijing. From one tai tai to another, Congratulations!!
Thanks! Just call me Tai Tai Menchero!
Oh, do you have hot water? Real floor surfaces?
Congratulations on signing your lease.
I don’t mean to brag or anything but we’ve got: central hot water, central AC, a kitchen sink that is actually a sink, not just a porcelain trough, laminate floor, an oven, a washing machine that also dries (although I detest dryers) and offers the ability to wash with HOT water, a bathtub AND an enclosed shower… I mean, I’m freaking out over the amenities! AND today we had trouble connecting to the Internet and the complex management office just sent someone over and he FIXED it. I’m such a country bumpkin!!
If it is the garden you tweeted about recently, it is going to be awesome. One caveat about it that I have heard from some that live there is that if your landlord is supposed to pay your fees and doesn’t feel like it, you won’t get the A/C or heat on schedule.
You might come around on dryers again for towels.
Sounds completely awesome by the way!!! Hooray for indoor plumbing!!!
Yup, it is that garden. It’s a little overwhelming to me, to be honest, after Linyi, but I’ll get used to it. (So green, so many families/kids, so many expats…) Something very strange about the apartments – the AC units have to be “switched” somehow from heating to cooling and it costs 350RMB for the maintenance guy to do it. I thought that sort of thing was automatic, but the community office management guy told us it’s some sort of design flaw and no one is happy about it.
Good for you.
Now your glass is 3/4 FULL.
COOOOL !!

Actually I’d say it is just about over-flowing! Very happy to be in Beijing!
