A true American and Global icon has left us today. Jimmy Buffett had a true and pure spirit. His zest and celebration for life will live on in his songs and grand legacy. The song I have always related to is “Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes”. It sums up the importance of travel and memories. I listen to it, and I am instantly reminded of all the wonderful people and places that I have been blessed to have in my life. Thank you, Jimmy, and rest in peace. The world is a better place because of you.

The verse that really resonates with me is the following: “Reading departure signs in some big airport reminds me of the places I’ve been. Visions of good times that brought so much pleasure makes me want to go back again.” It always reminds me of the Frankfurt, Germany airport. An airport that I have traveled to and from many of times. I love the old-fashioned departure list and watching the flights update. Frankfurt is also home to one of my best friends. I was there for her wedding, Christmas parties and markets, birthdays and just passing through for work. I am so grateful for all that the world of travel has bestowed upon me, such as great friends, memories for a lifetime and personal growth

It is so easy for us to fall into a monotonous pattern in our everyday lives. We may be questioning things in our lives, whether it is a career change, relationships, or any other big change. When we have the same latitude, it makes it hard to think outside of the box and look at the situation clearly. However, when we change our latitude, we change our perspective, we change our attitude. It allows us to see things more clearly. It is one of the great things about traveling, it truly makes us better people and helps us grow. So, when you are in a rut, remember a change of latitude can bring a change of attitude.

One of the reasons that the Covid-19 pandemic was so devasting is that it kept us from changing and growing. We had to stay in one place, and we were kept from the things that help us develop. As I look back, I am so grateful for the memories that travel has granted me, and grateful for the dreams of the future. The one thing about travel and memories is that they are always with you. The memories and hope for a better future is the one thing that helped me through the pandemic. Also, during the pandemic, I was in contact with my good friend in Germany almost every day. We gave each other hope and reminisced about the memories of the past and talked about our future travel dreams. We will miss Jimmy Buffett, but his inspiring fun music and legacy will live on forever, just like those beautiful travel memories.
